Different societies have different approaches towards stability and progress. What seems progressive for one society may already be considered the norm in another. It comes as no surprise that some regions of the world thus move ahead at a fast pace while others fall behind.

Personal freedom is one of the keys for progress. It is freedom which allows men to fail, but also to succeed and move ahead. Although it is commonly accepted that the Greek society needs bold reforms, the concept of freedom is still not applied thoroughly. Greece is not the first European country having to adapt in a rather short period of time. Only two decades ago, the Baltic States managed the turnaround from Soviet idleness to European liberalism, boosting their economies and the quality of life. But can economic and social progress be implanted into every country regardless of the state of its society?

Our keynote speaker comes from a highly progressive and mobile society. Does Europe in general and Greece in particular seem reactionary to somebody looking at them from outside? And are European societies ready to embrace freedom as a tool for progress and development?
